State Minimum Auto Insurance
All state's have minimum requirements for auto insurance liability coverage that are expressed as a group of three types of coverage amounts. They are:
- Injury liability coverage for one person in an accident
- Injury liability for all people in an accident
- Property damage liability in an accident
There are also regulations in each state for whether or not personal injury protection (PIP) or unisured motorist protection (UIM) is required as part of the policy. PIP covers all reasonable medical expenses , as well as a percentage of lost earnings, for all passengers of your car. UIM covers you if you are injured by a motorist who doesn't have auto insurance liability coverage. Each state also has laws regarding "no-fault" coverage. No-fault insurance states have laws that ensure coverage for all injured parties in an accident regardless of who caused the accident.
