California Health Insurance Exchange
California is one of the first states to begin implementation of a health insurance exchange. Gov. Schwarzeneggers signed several bills in an effort to establish the first health insurance exchange for California. The California health insurance exchange is expected to be the largest exchange operated by any state with an estimated 8 million California residents eligible for coverage through the system.
The exchange will allow California residents a platform from which they will be able to compare standardized, detailed information about various plans and will give them a toll free number from which they can get answers to any questions they may have regarding the exchange and their options.
California has established a 5-member oversight board via state bills AB 1602 and SB 900 who will select the health insurers who will be allowed into the exchange. This process is ongoing and an exchange has not yet been set up. It is expected to be in place before 2014.
In addition to your state's health insurance exchange, we recommend that you also compare rates and plans offered from other health insurance quote comparison sites. We recommend InsureMe where you can compare rates from dozens of health insurers such as Aetna, Humana, BCBS, Anthem, United Health and many more.
Another great source for comparing health insurance plans is eHealthInsurance.com.
